How To Measure Your Ring Size At Home

How To Measure Your Ring Size At Home

If you're looking to purchase a new ring from an online retailer, the standard size charts can be confusing if you don't have someone there who knows what they are doing.

Our guide will show how easy it is to measure your finger at home with nothing more than some string and a ruler!

Measuring Ring Size Using The String Test

To get started, you will need to collect your measurement materials. In the interest of keeping things simple, all you will need today is a bit of string, a pen, and a ruler.

Take the string and wrap it around the finger that you will wear the ring on. The string should fit snuggly around your finger but not be so tight that it’s uncomfortable.

Next, make a mark on the string at the point where the two ends meet. Then, cut the string at that point and line it up to your ruler, ensuring that the string stays taught from end to end.

Once you’ve done that, you have your measurement and can consult the size chart below.

Does The Sizing Chart Work For All Rings?

Whether you’re shopping for a ring as an engagement, class ring, or something in between, there is no more excuse not to get the perfect fit. No matter the material of your band, the fit will be the same.

Below we’ll cover how you can make sure you’re taking measurements correctly, so your first purchase can be the right one.

Making Sure Your Measurements Are Correct

There are a few factors that could affect your ring measurement you should keep in mind. Of course, you should take multiple measures and be sure that you haven’t made any errors.

Sudden temperature changes into either heat or cold can alter the blood flow to your hands and feet. These extremes could cause your fingers to swell, making your measurement too large. To avoid this, make sure you are taking your measures in a comfortable environment.

There are also slight variations in size between our dominant and non-dominant hands. So, measure each finger on which you would like to wear a ring. There’s no guarantee that both index fingers will be the same size.

General swelling from injury or arthritis is always a possibility. If you notice any visibly swelling, then use an ice pack and take some swelling reducers.

What’s most important is that you give the swelling time to go down, or else you’ll end up with something way too big for your fingers.

In general, if you follow these steps several times across multiple days, you will see any noticeable differences. We’d suggest using this tactic to err on the side of caution before you make your purchase.

Use A Ring Your Already Own

If you have rings that already fit you well, then you can put them on a ring size chart as well, relieving some of the pressure to get your measurement correct.

You may even be able to find an adjustable ring sizer that will do all of the work for you.

So, now that you know how to measure your ring size at home and have a general idea of what rings are suitable for your finger in our selection here, it's time to get shopping!

We hope this post was helpful. If there is anything else we can do for you, please don't hesitate to reach out. As always, thanks so much for reading.
