Employee Highlights

As February comes to an end, we would like to welcome a new employee, John Rios.  John joined our crew, moving from Texas and coming back to St. Augustine with his wife and four children to become a part of the Blue Water Jewelers team.  He is very skilled in his trade and has worked in the jewelry business for many years.  We are very excited to have him come on board.  Welcome John!

As they say, as one door opens, another closes: One of our veterans, Ashley Halo, is leaving us and starting a new adventure.  Ashely has been with Blue Water Jewelers for six years plus and we will sorely miss her.  She is moving on to start a family business with her husband, Tylor. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors. We will look forward to seeing her at future events and special occasions.

Spill The Tea - Monthly Jewelry Jab: Educating Our Clients One Drop At A Time

Engagement rings come in various head styles, each offering unique benefits and considerations. The classic prong setting is timeless, showcasing the diamond prominently with excellent light exposure, but it may snag on clothing. There are different prong styles to think of as well.

Four-Prong Settings:

Benefits: A four-prong setting provides a classic and timeless look while allowing more visibility of the diamond. It exposes a larger surface area of the stone, maximizing its brilliance and sparkle.

Considerations: However, with fewer prongs, there may be a slightly higher risk of the diamond getting loose compared to settings with more prongs. Ensure that your 4 prong head has a gallery rail for extra durability.

Six-Prong Settings:

Benefits: Six-prong settings offer increased security and stability. The additional prongs distribute the pressure more evenly, reducing the risk of the diamond becoming loose. This setting also adds a touch of vintage elegance to the ring.

Considerations: While it provides enhanced security, some people may feel that the additional prongs slightly obscure the diamond.

Double Prongs:

Benefits: Double prongs, as the name suggests, involve two smaller prongs on each corner instead of a single prong. This adds extra security while maintaining a delicate appearance, allowing more light to enter and showcase the diamond.

Considerations: The design can be intricate, requiring careful craftsmanship, and may be a bit more challenging to clean compared to a simpler prong setting.

Claw Prongs:

Benefits: Claw prongs are slender, pointed prongs that provide a delicate and refined look. They allow for maximum exposure of the diamond, showcasing its brilliance.

Considerations: The fine nature of claw prongs means they can be more delicate and may require more care to prevent bending or breaking. However, their elegance often outweighs these considerations for many.

Bezel settings offer a sleek, modern look and secure the diamond, minimizing snagging, though they may slightly reduce light reflection. Cathedral settings elevate the diamond for a regal appearance, but they can catch on objects due to their height.

Hidden halos add a touch of glamour, framing the center stone discreetly. They enhance the overall brilliance but can make cleaning intricate.

Consider your lifestyle when choosing a head style; an active lifestyle may benefit from a lower-profile setting to minimize snagging, while those desiring a dazzling display may opt for a prominent setting. It's crucial to strike a balance between style and practicality to ensure your engagement ring complements your daily activities.

Birthstone For The Month

The February birthstone, amethyst, is said to strengthen relationships and give its wearer courage. At one time, only royalty could wear the gem.

The International Gem Society says that the Amethyst is not only the traditional and modern February birthstone but also the commemorative gem for sixth and seventeenth wedding anniversaries. Indeed, amethyst has strong connections to the month of February and love.

The March birthstone, aquamarine, was thought to cure heart, liver, and stomach diseases—all one had to do was drink the water in which the gem had been soaking. Early sailors believed that aquamarine talismans, etched with the likeness of the sea god Neptune, protected them against ocean dangers.

Another March birthstone is the bloodstone, which is dark green with red specks.
